Dr. Clayton “Ben” Smith
A native of coastal Wilmington, North Carolina, Dr. Smith received his degree in dentistry from the University of North Carolina Chapel Hill. He immediately joined the practice his father, Dr. Clayton B. Smith, Jr. started in 1966.
Since taking over the practice, Dr. Smith has worked to continue his father’s reputation for gentleness, generosity, and good humor.
Dr. Smith is forever the student, seeking out the latest technologies and treatment options for his patients. He has pursued advanced education in endodontics, oral surgery, bone grafting, cosmetic dentistry, implant placement, and restoration, occlusion and TMJ, and most recently oral appliance therapy for bruxism.
Dr. Ben is also a member of the following professional associations:

- Academy Computerized Dentistry (ACDNA)
- North Carolina Dental Society
- American Academy of General Dentistry (AGD)
In his spare time, Dr. Smith enjoys spending time on the beach with his wife and three sons. He is also a devoted Christian, an avid fisherman, and enjoys volunteering at local charities.

Christi Puskas, CDA
Christi has been providing quality, attentive care to patients since 1987. During her 30 years with the practice, she has continued her education in the field to keep up with the latest treatment options and techniques. Christi enjoys her relationship with the rest of the team, as well as family time, hunting, fishing, and boating.
Ginger Hobbs, CDA
Ginger started working at Smith Dentistry in 2008 but has been working as a dental assistant for over 35 years. With a broad understanding of many dental fields, including orthodontics, endodontics, oral surgery, periodontics, and general dentistry, she helps patients find the best treatment options. In her free time, she enjoys running, boating, and the outdoors.
Kristi Thomas, RDH
Kristi has been working her way up in the dental industry for over 22 years. She graduated Cape Fear Community College as a CDA in 2006 and earned her RDH license in 2008. Now, she is happy to be a part of Dr. Smith’s team and enjoys her patients, her work, and teeth.
Peggy Martin, Scheduling Coordinator
Peggy has over 45 years of experience working with dentists across the country. In this time, she worked for an oral surgeon in Tennessee and a General Dentist in Virginia. In 1988 she settled in Wilmington and has been working at Smith Dentistry ever since.
Robin Peters, Account Executive
A Baltimore, Maryland, native, Robin graduated from UNC Wilmington with a BS in Management and started working at our office in 2002. Whether you need to schedule your next appointment, square away your bill, or discuss treatment options, she is happy to help.
Rosa Coetzer, RDH
I have been in the field of dentistry since 1985. I was a Dental Assistant from 1985 until 1991. After moving to the United States in 2001. I continued my education and graduated from Cape Fear Community College as a Registered Dental Hygienist. My favorite aspect of dentistry is the daily care I provide to my patients along with the challenges the practice and the profession brings.
